Paul Cezanne was a French painter who was part of both the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art movements. Born in the town of Aix-en-Provence on January 19, 1839 to a wealthy banker, Paul Cezanne showed promise as a visual artist from a young age. His father, however, was not particularly enthusiastic about Paul wanting to pursue painting professionally. After some heated disputes, Paul’s father did eventually approve of Paul’s choice, and gave him a small allowance to study art inParisin 1862.  When studying in Paris, Paul Cezanne was drawn to the progressive elements of the Parisian art scene. Paul Cezanne was increasingly drawn to the Impressionist style.

He eventually met Camille Pissarro, who would influence and educate Paul in the ways of Impressionist painting, which consisted of painting outdoors, focusing on recreating landscapes using vivid colors and accurate representation of light. Paul Cezanne would eventually be accepted into the Impressionist society, and there he worked an exhibited with Impressionist masters like Monet and Renoir. Paul Cezanne would eventually drift away from most of his Impressionist contemporaries and would prefer to work alone.
